Walking with Ancestors

I was born and bred in the South Wales Valleys, I now live just off the M4 corridor, not far from the Second Severn Bridge.

I have been researching my family history since March 2007 and have discovered many brick walls, uncovered a few (rather juicy) skeletons and have recently uncovered a great uncle who was unknown to the family. I have learned so much along the way including the fact that my family are not as well as they appear. The biggest thing I have learned though is that a family tree is NEVER complete. Not only can you keep on adding generations to come, but with each new ancestor discovered they come with children and, therefore, new family.

Brought up in South Wales, I always believed my roots were here. Surprisingly, by the time I reached my Great Grandparents, I had already been taken out of Wales by some.. I found the EVANS’ of Glamorganshire; the BRUCE’s of Northamptonshire; the HODGES’, LEWIS’, WILLIAMS’, GIBBS’ and TRANTER’s of Monmouthshire and the HUGHES’ of Worcestershire. Beyond my great grandparents, I have roots in Cornwall, Brecknockshire, Herefordshire, Montgomeryshire, Merionethshire and Oxfordshire.

Over the last 4.5 years, I’ve learned so much about the records available online.

Please take a look at my blog, Walking with Ancestors, to find out what I'm up to now!
